Scratching an Itch Without Opposable Thumbs
Ok, Okay….. I have a strange sense of humor. But I have always thought about how you scratch an itch when you don’t have all the digits or appendages we take for granted.
This youngster was having a hard time this morning. Fish weren’t falling for his antics, older birds were poaching in his territory, and he had a terrible itch.

So often the cliched comment about how different cats are from dogs, I’m afraid I’m a dog guy and I find it hard to relate to cats. But even a dog guy has to admit to the “cuteness” of this one.
End of the Growing Season
I came across this scene last fall. I was crossing Vermont in mid-autumn on an overcast day. I love overcast skies. While they may not yield grand landscapes with blue skies, the diffusion of the clouds does wonderful things to enrich the colors of everything.

Not long ago while I was out shooting birds I looked away from them and at the array of frostbitten flowers. I thought they made as interesting an image as the critters.

I love flowers that aren’t quite perfect. There really isn’t all that much in this world that has no blemishes, no sags, no imperfections and coming to terms with those imperfections is a huge part of life.
