In the Manner of Odalisque
There is a long history of such images. From Delecroix and Ingres to the art of contemporary sculptor and painter Dan Earl, the reclining nude has been a popular subject. Rarely are the subjects waiflike or anorexic, instead they tend to be buxom, bountiful and curvaceous women, even Rubenesque women.
An odalisque is not a position, but the harem members to which the terms used to apply were frequently painted in such positions of relaxation.
And it’s a wonderful, elegant position for a great many women; and a favorite of mine. One can easily disguise those parts about which a model may be self conscious – or going to the other extreme, may capitalize on those of which the model is most proud.

All Fringey

Creativity is an interesting thing. And it has nothing to do with age. My 50+ yr old friend arrives at the studio each time brimming with ideas, while many of my younger models arrive expecting to have every single movement choreographed.

Reclining Nude

Reflective

I am usually in favor of nudes with smiles — I guess I’m too old fashioned to like nudes with attitude. But even a smiling woman can find a reflective moment and this shoot seemed full of them.
The Ski Cap

Who doesn’t love a lady with a smile?
And who doesn’t love a lady with a sense of humor.
I’d be tempted to wonder if she was cold….
But I see no goosebumps…. do you?
